FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I cancel my existing Internet service?
If you are planning to order Cloudwifi's Internet service, cancelling your existing Internet service is easy. To cancel your current service, you simply need to phone your existing service provider and let them know you are cancelling.
It is best to wait until AFTER the Cloudwifi technician has installed your new Internet before cancelling your existing service. By waiting until your Cloudwifi Internet has been installed, this guarantees that you will never be without Internet during the change Your service provider must allow you to cancel your services on the same day that you call. This is now the law in Canada! You no longer need to provide 30 days notice before cancelling your phone, mobile, Internet, or TV services. Years ago this was required but the government's telecommunication authority known as CRTC banned this practice in 2015, so as long as you are not in a contract, you do not need to provide your Internet company with any notice when cancelling. You can read more on the CRTC website: CLICK HERE
When will my service be installed?
Within 2 business days of purchasing the installation package on this website, a Cloudwifi technician will contact you to book a specific install date and time for your unit.
Who is Cloudwifi?
Fast, Simple, and Great Prices are not typically the words that come to mind for your Internet Service Provider, but Cloudwifi is on a mission to change the way Canadians experience the Internet! As one of Ontario’s Top Rated Internet Service Provider and a true independent alternative to the big telcos, we believe in doing things differently and not following the status quo. Cloudwifi delivers blazing fast Internet exclusively to high-rises, and at a significant discount to the traditional Internet companies.
It all started with one building in Waterloo. You can now find Cloudwifi’s services in over 150 buildings across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, London, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Barrie, Peterborough, Kingston, Woodstock, Brantford, Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton!
We have ambitious plans to continue the rapid growth trajectory we’ve been on. We hope you will join us for this exciting ride!
What kind of router do I need?
You can use any off-the-shelf Ethernet router from Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. and connect it to our network! You do not need to buy or rent any special or proprietary locked modems or routers from Cloudwifi.
We have three high-level recommendations when choosing a router:
1. In high-density buildings like yours, with so many routers and other wireless devices close by, we strongly suggest using an "AC" or "AX" router to help minimize the impact of wireless interference from your neighbours.
2. Pay attention to the Ethernet speed listed in the name of the router. We strongly suggest using a "Gigabit" router because they are capable of speeds over 100 Mbps. If a router is not a Gigabit router, then it cannot go faster than 100 Mbps. If you are not planning on subscribing to a plan higher than 100 Mbps (now OR in the future), then this recommendation is not as relevant to you.
3. As far as router manufacturers go, our Networking Team generally sees the best performance from "TP-Link", but you are free to use any router that you'd like, so long as it's not a modem and router combination that is locked to another Internet Service Provider (Eg. Bell, Rogers), as those will NOT work on the Cloudwifi network.
Below are a few recommended routers:
Basic - TP-Link Archer C50 AC1200 (Note: cannot exceed 100 Mbps): https://amzn.to/3kpmEPT
Good - TP-Link Archer A6 AC1200 Gigabit: https://amzn.to/3mpRdXL
Better - TP-Link Archer AX10 AX1500 Gigabit: https://amzn.to/33Cj9is
Even Better - TP-Link Archer C80 AC1900 Gigabit: https://amzn.to/3kpn8FH
Best - TP-Link Archer AX50 AX3000 Gigabit: https://amzn.to/3hDOExx
Amazon has rotating sales on a variety of different routers. You may want to look and see if there are any other good routers on sale today. Here's a search we often use when looking for router recommendations for our customers: https://amzn.to/32HTbeh
How do I get online?
Getting online is easy!
First, sign up, pick a plan, and order an installation. You will then receive an email to select your installation date and time (check your junk mail folder if you do not see it). Follow the link in that email to book your install.
Note: Even though you are choosing a plan in advance, the actual billing date for your monthly services will not start until after your installation has been completed.
Once Cloudwifi's Internet service has been installed in your unit, you will see an ethernet port labelled "Cloudwifi". All that's left now is to plug a router into this port and connect your computer to the router in order to complete the online activation process!
If you run into any difficulty, give our 24x7 tech support team a call and they will help walk you through the activation. 1-855-955-9434 ext 2.
